Creative Developer

Something Familiar studio, Bristol

We’re a Bristol-based, B Corp certified brand and digital studio. We build sites that are as carefully made as the brands they carry — fluid, fast, and full of small moments of motion that make them feel considered. We’re looking for a Creative Developer to help us make more of them.

About the role

You’ll work closely with our designers to take projects from Figma into the browser, sweating the details that separate a good build from a great one: typography that scales properly, motion that feels intentional, and performance that never gets sacrificed for polish.

We care deeply about the craft of front-end work. If you get a quiet thrill from a perfectly eased transition or a layout that holds together at every viewport, you’ll fit right in.

What you’ll be doing

  • Building marketing sites and brand experiences from design through to launch;
  • Translating Figma designs into clean, accessible, responsive front-ends;
  • Bringing pages to life with considered motion and interaction;
  • Owning performance, accessibility, and cross-device quality;
  • Collaborating with designers early, so the build informs the design and vice versa;
  • Helping us sharpen our tooling, components, and ways of working.

What you’ll bring

  • Strong, modern HTML, CSS, and JavaScript — you reach for the platform before a framework;
  • A genuine eye for design and an instinct for detail and motion;
  • Experience with animation libraries such as GSAP, and smooth-scroll tooling like Lenis;
  • Comfort with a component-driven static-site setup (we build with Astro);
  • A care for accessibility, semantics, and prefers-reduced-motion as defaults, not afterthoughts;
  • A collaborative, low-ego approach to working with designers and clients.

Nice to haves

  • Experience with Astro specifically, or a similar modern static framework;
  • A portfolio of work where the front-end craft is doing real heavy lifting;
  • An interest in sustainable, low-impact web design;
  • Curiosity about where design tooling and AI are heading.
